A champion little hill bagging is Tom Tallon's Crag at the top of Northumberland National Park. You will probably grab this one on your way to Newton Tors or Yeavering Bell.
In the Ordnance Survey Name Book of 1860, it indicates that Tom Tallon was a warrior slain at the site and this is his grave. There is more information about Tom Tallon's Crag over on the Fabulous North website.
But of course you are mainly here for hill bagging, so let us tell you how to get here. Parking at Wooler Common, simply pick up St. Cuthbert's Way heading west and follow this all the way to the bottom of Tom Tallon's Crag. You will see it peeping out of the heather.
Follow the route above or find it on OS Maps. Just under 6km and 252m of climbing, but you will forget about the pain in your legs with magnificent views all around.
