Login To Bag HillsSitting right next to the border between England and Scotland is the double peaked Coldsmouth Hill. The southern peak (the one on the left) is 414m and is what I need to bag for the Cheviot 99 Challenge.
I love a hill with a cairn or trig point marking the top of the hill, as not only does it give you something to confirm your bagging, but also helps you identify hills and get your bearings when you're wandering. And Coldsmouth Hill has 2 cairns!
It was even more spectacular up here in the snow too.
I wandered over to the northern peak which is around 370m high and then down to Elsdonburn Shank. A quick photo from here.
To bag Coldsmouth Hill, the quickest way is to park at Kirk Yetholm and follow the Pennine Way before diverting up on Ecles Cairn, through the gate at the corner of the trees and then just romp your way up to the top.
Follow the route above or find it on OS Maps. Around 2.75km and 296m of ascent.
We'd defo recommend a visit to Green Humbleton Hillfort and the Stob Stones on your way back.
