Byrness Hill is a nice bagging, but with fabulous views too.

The initial walk is through a forest area and can be a little boggy, but as you clear that, the scenery turns into a bit of a boulder graveyard.

Once you are at the top, turn back for spectacular views over Catcleugh Reservoir.

Nearest place to park is at St Francis Of Assisi Church In Byrness and then head back west a short distance until you see a fingerpost across the road. Follow the little path through the trees, following the permissive path as it skirts the house and then up into the forest.

Once you get to the cairn, then you are at the top. Just over 1km of hiking with nearly 200m of ascent.

Follow the route above or find it on OS Maps.
