I'm going to be honest and say that Breamish Head was probably my least favourite hill bagging of the Cheviot 99 Challenge.

With it sitting on the banks of The Cheviot with views of Coldlaw Cairn it had all the hallmarks of a cracker, however maybe the route I took to get it from Ainsley Knowe then traipsing 3km over boggy ground, put a downer on it.

Obviously Breamish Head gets its name from being the source of the River Breamish that runs through the valley before becoming the River Till and then feeding into the River Tweed.

Although there are quicker routes by heading up the Cheviot and then descending via Scotsman's Knowe, why not follow the River Breamish from the valley floor up to its source.

Starting at Hartside near Linhope, head through Alnhamoor and then pick up the tarmacked track that hugs the River Breamish all the way through High and Low Bleakhope. As you pass High Cantle, take the track heading up towards Coldlaw Cairn and then make your way down to Breamish Head.

It's a bit boggy around here, so I followed the fence line near Coldlaw Cairn for a bit and then found the easiest path through the heather. Nearly 12km and 532 of climbing.
